PGF SCHOLARSHIPS

Pooni Group Foundation has partnered with the top academies and universities to raise funds for programs and students that show immense potential for positive growth. 

Pooni Group Family Award in Geography

An annual award for an undergraduate studying in the depart geography. 

Pooni Group Family Award in Business

An annual award for an undergraduate studying in the Peter B Gustavson school of business. 

The Thunderbird Soccer Award has been made available annually through a gift from Gary Pooni. This scholarship is awarded to members of the UBC Thunderbirds Men's and Women's Soccer Teams in any year of study. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated leadership, courage, and perseverance in the face of adversity. 

Amrik S. Pooni and Family Bursary scholarship is awarded annually to an undergraduate student who is enrolled full-time at SFU in a bachelor’s degree program, demonstrates financial need, and has declared a major, joint major or honours in any undergraduate degree offered by the geography department.

Brittannia Secondary School

A student enrolled in a sport, pursuing post secondary education in arts or humanities (college or university), and has preserved through some hardship. 

New Westminster Secondary School

Stan Smyl “Steamer” Alumni Leadership 

Presented to a recipient who has excelled in sports and demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities, along with maintaining a good academic standing.

Cliff Ronning Perseverance Award

Presented to a recipient who has persevered through adversity while maintaining a good academic standing and contributed to the athletic department by participating in several teams.

Bill Ranford Hockey Award

Presented to a recipient who must have participated in the New Westminster Secondary School Hockey Academy, be in good academic standing and has volunteered in the Community.

Doug Woodward "Perseverance Award"

The Doug Woodward “Perseverance Award” is to be given to a Hyack Girls Basketball player who best exemplifies Coach Woodward's "No Excuses" attitude. This player shows leadership through hard work, perseverance and dedication. She not only strives to improve her development as a player but also contributes to her teammates' and the team's overall success.

Saint John Ambulance and Pooni Group Award

Grade 12 student with good academic standing (B average at least) intending to pursue medical training or something in the medical field.

Ken Bowman Coach's Award

This award is given to the Hyack Senior Boys Basketball player who best exemplifies hard work, determination, and dedication on and off the basketball court.

Rick Bloudell Perseverance Award

This award is given to a student who has demonstrated perseverance in overcoming a personal challenge. The student must be a C+ or above student who intends to pursue post-secondary education in college, university, or the trades.

Judy Wilson Award for The Arts

This award is given to a student pursuing a post-secondary degree in the arts — visual, literary, dramatic arts etc. The student must be a B average and above,  have a community presence and present financial need.

Harbhajan Kaur Pooni Award for Kindness

This awarded is given to a student who has shown extraordinary amounts of kindness to their peers and community. 

Ken Bowman Coach's Award

This award is given to the Hyack Senior Basketball player who best exemplifies hard work, determination, and dedication on and off the basketball court.

Chris Higgins & Family Award for Commitment to Education and Community is awarded to a student who meets the following criteria: good academic standing with acceptance to a post-secondary institution, demonstrated community volunteer work, embodies FA's values, and involvement in sports outside of Fraser Academy. 

Templeton Secondary School

The Pooni Group and Montagliani Family Scholarship is awarded annually to one male, one female, and one first nations student. They must meet the following criteria: B average student, active in their community, have leadership qualities, active in sports, pursuing post-secondary, and possibly overcame hardships.

Douglas College

Arthur and Jane Griffiths Scholarship in Nursing is awarded annually to one student. They must meet the following criteria: they have a financial need, have persevered through hardship and volunteer within their community.

Bill Randford "Community Service" Scholarship is awarded annually to one male and one female. High school seniors must be currently registered and rostered on an LAKHSHL team and must have played in a minimum of 50% of their LAKHSHL games as of 12/31 of the current season. Additionally, applicants must be a minimum B student and the scholarship must be used for secondary education after high school.
